"I see where a correctional officer at MCI was complaining that Gov. (Martin) O'Malley is talking about cutting out overtime for the officers. They were complaining the whole time that the other governor was in office. Now that Gov. O'Malley is in - and they voted for (former governor Robert Ehrlich) to get out - now they have Gov. O'Malley and they're still complaining, so what is it? Which way do you want it?" - Boonsboro

"When are we going to get a traffic light on Eastern Boulevard at Opal Court? This is ridiculous. We can't even get out of traffic anymore when we get out of work. We sit there for I can't even tell you how long. Tonight was horrible - two people almost got hit, sideswiped. Del. (Donald F.) Munson said February of 2007. It's now May. We have no traffic light, and if somebody doesn't do something soon, there's gonna be a serious accident and someone's gonna get killed." - Hagerstown

"To the person who asked who to contact when they see expired tags on vehicles: Why don't you try to get their attention and tell them? They probably are unaware. Or put a note on their windshield. I'm sure they would appreciate it. I did."

"I would like to thank the person that found my glasses and turned them in at Lincolnshire. I sure did appreciate it."

"Not buying gas on a certain day will not make or break the oil companies, but unity in numbers can. It would have shown the president of the U.S. that we could stand together for bigger and better things." - Warfordsburg, Pa.

"I'm calling about the Hagerstown caller who called in and said they read in the paper where seven more soldiers got killed over in Iraq, and then they said they thought Congress was supposed to be the power in our country, to keep things on the up and up. Let me tell this caller they need to take some history classes because the president is the commander in chief of the military of this country, not Congress. And unfortunately, we got Democrats in, and President Bush and his administration are Republicans, and the two Democrats do not permit him to have a free say in the military, and unfortunately, we're gonna have to put up with it." - Rohrersville

"Congratulations to the county tennis players who recently made it through to the regional playoff in Frederick last Saturday. It's a shame these athletes don't often make it to states, but that's due to the fact that they compete against all 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A schools. There are several tennis athletes from this county who would bring home a state title if they only had to compete in their 1A or 2A level. Why don't all sports do this? How many state champions would there be then? It just doesn't seem fair to them that they don't get a chance to shine like some other athletes in other sports. " - Washington County

"I see where West Virginia did a sweep on illegals. They did an excellent job. They caught some of them with - what else - illegal documents. And now people are complaining? Give me a break. This is America. We need to close our borders. People are going to wake up one day and say, 'What happened to our freedoms?'" - Hagerstown

"In reference to the one in the article about expired tags: All they have to do is write a letter, send it to Motor Vehicles in Glen Burnie on Ritchie Highway, attention Investigation Office. You have to have the tag number and write that down, and they will definitely go out and take tags. They do this every day. They can't catch everyone, but they do this every day."

"I'm calling concerning the city light plant. I agree with the fellow 100 percent that called in and said the city has to do something about the brush and the deplorable condition the building's in. It's an eyesore, and it has been an eyesore for 15 years or more. Also, at the same intersection, Eastern Boulevard turning onto Mount Aetna Road, they need a righthand turn signal there - turn lane. You wait and wait and wait on straight going through traffic. City, please get on the ball and clean up the city light plant, or I'm calling my congressman." - Funkstown

"B6, on May 23, business section: 'China bluntly warns about confrontation in trade talks.' Good article - excellent. People should be reading that. Keep buying foreign products, everybody. Look what China says. Wait until they introduce that new Chinese version of our Saturn next year and see what happens to our world market, and see who holds all our debts and see who has all the cards in their hands." - Leitersburg
