High school athletes earn first-place medals

BALTIMORE - Seven Washington County high school athletes brought home first-place medals Thursday on the first day of the Maryland Track & Field Championships at Morgan State University.

Trey Jones, a senior at South Hagerstown High School, won his second straight Class 2A boys shot put crown. Jones had a winning mark of 49 feet, 3 1/2 inches.

Other winners were:

· Jess Johnson, Tracey Forsythe, Lexi Bryan and Jordan Atha, Williamsport. The foursome won the Class 1A girls 3,200-meter relay in 10 minutes, 2.02 seconds.

· Dustin Adams, Clear Spring. Adams won the Class 1A boys 3,200 in 9 minutes, 52.35 seconds.

· Jamal Campbell, Smithsburg. Campell won the Class 1A boys long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 1 inch.

Competition in Class 1A and Class 2A continues Saturday.
