HALFWAY - There's an element of risk involved in hosting a fundraiser during Memorial Day weekend, when so many organizations are competing for festival attendees.
The Lions Club of Halfway gladly assumes the risk, said club member Stan Johnson, who is helping organize the club's 28th annual Halfway Park Days.
The event - a fundraiser for the club - is Saturday and Sunday at Martin L. "Marty" Snook Memorial Park. Johnson said there will be food, roughly 90 craft vendors, live music by cover band Ho-Kiss Po-Kiss and the South Hagerstown High School jazz band, and a magic show.
Johnson said the event has drawn as many as 10,000 visitors. "That's determined mostly by the number of chicken wings we sell," said Johnson, laughing.
