Nine-day carnival kicks off

May 24, 2007|by TIFFANY ARNOLD

BOONSBORO - The Great Boonsboro Rescue Co. Carnival kicks off Friday, May 25, at Shafer Memorial Park.

The event is an annual fundraiser for the Boonsboro Ambulance & Rescue Company, generating between $20,000 and $50,000 for the company each year, said Dewayne Flook, an organizer and Boonsboro firefighter.

While there are rides and plenty of carnival-style foods, music seems to be a major draw for the event, Flook said, as bands - mostly local entertainers - are scheduled nightly.

Flook said last year's Memorial Day band, Little Big Town, attracted 8,000 attendees.

The country trio Carolina Rain will perform on Memorial Day this year. Video clips are available at the band's Web site,

All concerts start at 7:30 p.m. Each set is 90 minutes.

The music lineup includes:

· Friday, May 25 - Megan Mullins

· Saturday May 26 - Smokin Gunnz

· Sunday May 27 - The Shades

· Monday May 28 - Carolina Rain

· Tuesday May 29 - Brushfire

· Wednesday May 30 - Redline

· Thursday May 31 - The Brandy Stills Band

· Friday June 1 - Georgia Lea & Stone Cold Country. Fireworks scheduled after the show. Rain date is after the June 2 performance.

· Saturday June 2 - Bob Plunkert & Real Country.
