Barbershop chorus to perform

May 23, 2007

The Mason Dixon Barbershop Chorus will present a program on Sunday, June 3, at 7 p.m. at the Byron Memorial Park band shell.

They are dedicated to performing and preserving the four-part close harmony music that exemplifies the barbershop style.

The "Old Songs" with smooth melodies and natural harmony were written in the heyday of Tin Pan Alley from 1890 to 1920, and are best suited for barbershop harmony. These were songs about the simple pleasures and emotions of life that the average singer could sing easily.

It all began in the small town barbershops, country stores and churches of America. To learn more about the Mason Dixon Barbershop Chorus and view their schedule, check out their Web site at www.masondixonchorus.org.
