A man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court to second-degree burglary in connection with a Dec. 2 burglary at Colonial Restaurant and Lounge.

William Allen Taylor, 36, of no fixed address, was seen on video surveillance inside the restaurant and bar at 14130 Pennsylvania Ave., Assistant State's Attorney John Dunlap said in court Tuesday. More than $1,000 in cash and other items was taken, Dunlap said.

The Herald-Mail has reported that 45 packs of cigarettes and more than $200 in cash were taken during the burglary.

Dunlap called Taylor a "major offender," and listed several crimes that he has been convicted of, including trespassing, felony theft, drug crimes and other burglaries.

Taylor works regularly as a truck driver and wrote a letter of apology to the court, Deputy District Public Defender Mary S. Riley said.
