MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Ryan Colby lifted Mercersburg Academy from the mound and at the plate in a five-inning victory to help the Blue Storm advance to the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania Independent Schools State Tournament.

Colby pitched in his fifth shutout, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out three. He added three hits and drove in four runs, including a two-run single in Mercersburg's five-run third inning.

Zach Hart added three hits for the Blue Storm.

Mercersburg advances to the tournament's final eight with a possible matchup with defending state champion Malvern Prep, the tournament's second seed, on Thursday.



Rickard wins high jump gold

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Waynesboro's Terrell Rickard won the Class AAA boys high jump in 6-7 1/4 Saturday at the PIAA District 3 meet at Shippensburg University.

Rickard's effort is the best high jump in the Tri-State this spring.


Mercersburg Academy 9, State College 2

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Andrew Reichardt had three goals and an assist and Andrew Gordon scored twice to help Mercersburg Academy close the season with a victory over State College.

Adam Ryan added a goal with two assists, while Aidan Crofton had a goal and an assist and Will Fejes scored for the Blue Storm. Ben Axelrod assisted on two goals while Myles Dowling, Jay Whyel and Alex Krill all chipped in with assists.

Goalkeeper David Chakola had 11 saves for Mercersburg Acdemy (2-12).
