Man wanted by police arrested in Virginia

A man wanted by the Washington County Sheriff's Department in a May 2 robbery and carjacking in Williamsport was apprehened at about 7 p.m. Saturday in Strasburg, Va., deputies said.

Jamie Parker Barnes, 41, was being held Monday afternoon at the Shenandoah County (Va.) jail, a spokesman there said. Barnes waived extradition to Maryland, Sgt. Roy Harsh said.

Barnes was captured after a two-week search through several states.

Authorities first found Barnes' wife, Jessica Barnes, who has not been charged with any crimes.

On Wednesday, the Washington County Sheriff's Department received a tip that Jessica Barnes made a telephone call from the Strasburg Ramada Inn, deputies said. Based on information she gave police during an interview, officers from the Strasburg and Winchester (Va.) police departments and the Washington County Sheriff's Department searched the Strasburg area for Jamie Barnes, deputies said.

He was arrested Saturday after he went to the Ramada Inn, deputies said.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department has a warrant for Barnes in a May 2 armed robbery at Williamsport Pharmacy, 31 N. Conocoheague St., that occured at about 10 a.m., deputies said.

Deputies allege that the robber showed a handgun, took Oxycontin and other prescription medication, and ran away.

About two minutes after responding to the robbery, deputies received an emergency call about a carjacking near Md. 68 and Spielman Road in Williamsport, Harsh said.

The carjacking victim, a Hedgesville, W.Va. woman, saw a man wreck his vehicle. When she went to check on his condition, the man got into her vehicle and told her to drive, deputies allege.

The woman drove down Spielman Road until the carjacker told her to get out of the car, deputies said.

The wrecked vehicle was registered to a Jamie Parker Barnes.
