Antietam National Cemetery to mark Armed Forces Day

Antietam National Cemetery will participate this morning in EchoTaps Worldwide in recognition of Armed Forces Day, according to a Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau press release.

Students from Boonsboro High School and former members of the military will perform taps at 11 a.m., according to the release.

At 10:30 a.m., a park ranger will lead an instructional program at the Antietam National Battlefield Visitor Center, then escort interested visitors and members of the public to the cemetery for EchoTaps.

EchoTaps Worldwide is an event where buglers play a cascading rendition of taps at national cemeteries, veterans cemeteries and American battle monument cemeteries around the world, according to the release.

Antietam National Cemetery is one of 14 national cemeteries maintained by the National Park Service.

Since 1949, the third Saturday in May has been designated as Armed Forces Day. The day honors those who have served and continue to serve in uniform, according to the release.
