Paul E. Nunemaker Sr., 71



JUNE 26, 1935-MAY 17, 2007

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Paul E. Nunemaker Sr., 71, of 5290 Altenwald Road, died Thursday, May 17, 2007, at his home.

Born June 26, 1935, in Mont Alto, Pa., he was the son of the late Oscar Emory and Ardella Strayer Nunemaker.

He attended schools in Quincy, Pa.

He was employed by Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro for 26 years.

He had served as police chief of Mont Alto.

He was a member of Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro.

He was a member of Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Co. and South Mountain Fish and Game Association.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Swartz Nunemaker, whom he married April 19, 1980; one daughter, Penny D. Wenger of Belleville, Mich.; two sons, Paul E. Nunemaker Jr. of Waynesboro, and Darryl L. Nunemaker of Mont Alto; four sisters, Mary Junkins of Fayetteville, Pa., Sally Peck and Bette Reed, both of Mont Alto, and Nancy Showalter of Fayetteville; one brother, William Nunemaker of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mae Adolini, Edith Jones and Jean Morgan; three brothers, Emory Nunemaker, John Nunemaker and James Nunemaker; and one grandson.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro. Pastor Wilbur F. Besecker will officiate.

Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery near Mifflintown, Pa.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, 9244 Five Forks Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.




Julia I. Elter, 89



SEPT. 14, 1917-MAY 16, 2007

CARLISLE, Pa. - Julia I. "Sis" Elter, 89, of Sara Todd Memorial Home, and formerly of Nyesville Road in Chambersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, May 16, 2007.

Born Sept. 14, 1917, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Herbert L. and Mary Margaret Lautenslager Heller.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roger Immell, who died in 1951; and her second husband, Paul R. "Dick" Elter, who died Sept. 4, 2003.

She had worked as a secretary at Chambersburg High School.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.

She is survived by one son, Roger A. Immell II of Carlisle; and two grandchildren, Leslie Immell and Laura N. Immell.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane and Josephine.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Chambersburg. The Rev. John Teitman will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg.




Samuel N. Crouse Sr., 84



JAN. 15, 1923-MAY 16, 2007

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Samuel N. Crouse Sr., 84, of 43 Forrest Ave., died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at his home.

Born Jan. 15, 1923, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late John E. Crouse Sr. and Anna R. Hunsecker Crouse.

He was employed as a union welder, retiring in 1981.

He attended the United Methodist Church.

He was a member of VFW Post 1599 and Elks Lodge 600.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Swisher Crouse; three children, Samuel N. Crouse Jr. of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Marlene Corwell and Robin Hamilton, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; one sister, Dorcas Helmuth of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Elwood Crouse, Frank Crouse, John Crouse and Harold Crouse.

Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

George E. Alter Jr., 91



FEB. 9, 1916-MAY 10, 2007

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - George Elias Alter Jr., 91, of Shepherdstown, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in Shepherdstown.

Born Feb. 9, 1916, in Springdale, Pa., he was the son of the late George Elias Alter and Diana Jane Swanton Alter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Kent White Alter, whom he married in June 1949.

He attended Arnold School, now Shady Side Academy, in Pittsburgh. He was a 1938 graduate of Princeton University, receiving a degree in chemistry. He pursued graduate studies in chemical engineering at Carnegie-Mellon University.
