Waynesboro Borough Council elects Newcomer as president

May 17, 2007

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Waynesboro Borough Council on Wednesday reorganized, naming Councilman Craig Newcomer as its new president.

Councilman Jason Stains was made vice president.

Veteran Councilman Richard "Dick" George asked for the reorganization, saying that when he was appointed president, he took the position with the expectation he would eventually turn it over to a newer member.

Councilman Charles "Chip" McCammon opposed the reorganization and both Stains' and Newcomer's appointments.

"Why are we doing this?" McCammon asked. "What's the purpose?"

With Councilman Allen Berry absent from the meeting and members abstaining from votes concerning them, all the reorganization votes were 3-1.
