Police to hold child safety seat checkpoint



Maryland State Police will hold a child safety seat checkpoint on Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hagerstown barrack at 18345 Col. Henry Douglas Drive. troopers said.

Anyone with questions or problems related to child safety seat installation can stop by at no charge, troopers said.




Salvation Army office open for tours



In honor of National Salvation Army Week, the local office of The Salvation Army will be open for tours at its 534 W. Franklin St. through Sunday.

Staff and volunteers will be available from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.




Cemetery to host Memorial Day service



Rose Hill Cemetery will hold a Memorial Day service on Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m.

AMVETS Post 10 will perform full military honors, and a bagpiper will provide music.

A Living History of the Civil War also will be held at the cemetery, Rose Hill manager Bill Divelbliss said. The Stone Mountain Raiders will provide historical interpretation; men will be in Confederate uniforms and women in Civil War dresses; and a cannon will be fired following the service, Divelbliss said.

Wayne Carter, a member of the Stone Mountain Raiders, will be telling stories of how soldiers and their wives lived during the Civil War. The Stone Mountain Raiders will camp out through Sunday afternoon for anyone who wants to learn more about Civil War history.




Steak feed to be held at American Legion



The Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Auxiliary will hold a steak feed on Saturday, May 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the post at 405 Northern Ave.

The meal will include a steak cooked on a charcoal grill, a baked potato, coleslaw, baked beans, soft drinks and Legion milk.

The auxiliary is sponsoring the event to benefit its veterans, community service and children and youth projects.

Tickets for the event cost $11 per person and are available in the lounge at Post 42 or by calling Linda at 301-790-3566.
