CHAMBERSBURG, PA. - Incumbent Republican Commissioner Bob Thomas was nominated for a fourth four-year term on the Franklin County Board of Commissioners in Tuesday's primary, according to incomplete and unofficial results from the county Election Board.

Leading the chase to join Thomas on the Republican ticket was David S. Keller. The leaders in the Democratic race were Cheryl Stearn and Bob Ziobrowski.

Thomas, 52, of Chambersburg, topped the GOP ballots with 33 percent of the vote, followed by Keller, 37, of Chambersburg with 17 percent. Stearn, of St. Thomas Township, received 26 percent of the Democratic vote, followed by Ziobrowski's 22 percent.

Keller is a computer network specialist at Sunrise Electronics in Chambersburg, which is owned by Stearn and her husband, Frank, a St. Thomas Township supervisor. Ziobrowski is an appraiser and former Chambersburg School Board president.

"I knocked on a lot of doors," Stearn said Tuesday night. "I had a lot of help from my husband, my friends and my campaign workers. A tremendous amount of support."

The top two vote-getters in each party will enter the November general election with the top three then being elected to the board of commissioners. The commissioners are paid $63,458 this year.

The four nominees emerged from a crowded field of seven Republicans and five Democrats. The field grew quickly after the February announcements by Commissioners G. Warren Elliott and Cheryl Plummer that they would not be seeking re-election.

The remainder of the Republican candidates were Carl Helman, Carl Barton, Samuel F. Cressler, Douglas Tengler and Ben Statler.

Also running in the Democratic primary were Mercersburg Mayor James C. Zeger, Waynesboro attorney Clint Barkdoll and Don Richards of Greencastle.
