Anthony leads in Franklin County GOP sheriff showdown with 74 of 74 precincts reporting

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - With 74 of 74 precincts reporting, Dane Anthony had collected 64 percent of the vote in Tuesday's primary to become the Republican nominee for Franklin County Sheriff.

Anthony was easily leading William M. Kauffman, who received 33 percent, according to icomplete but unofficial results from the County Election Board.

Anthony, 47, of 8499 Fort McCord Road, Chambersburg, served as a deputy for more than 15 years before resigning several years ago and running an unsuccessul cmapaign against incumbent Robert Wollyung, who is retiring this year after four terms and 16 years as sheriff.

Kauffman, of 219 Mt. Airy Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., is a retired borough police officer who now works in the Sheriff's Office.

No Democrat filed to run for sheriff, although either Anthony or Kauffman could pick up that party's nomination through write-in votes. A candidate must have at least 100 write-in votes to win a nomination for countywide office.

The sheriff is paid $57,401 this year, according to county figures.
