Newcomers ahead in Washington Township primary

May 16, 2007

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - With all five precincts reporting, but results not made official, Stephen Kulla and Elaine Gladhill were leading among the five candidates for Washington Township supervisor in Tuesday's Republican primary, while two incumbents appeared to be out of the running.

The numbers, however, were close with Kulla, 43, of 11617 Woodlea Drive, an attorney, leading Gladhill, 49, of 15457 Carrosmar Farm Road, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., 522 to 499. Dave McCarney had 462 votes, followed by incumbent C. Stewart McCleaf with 457 and incumbent Paul Benchoff with 451.

No Democrats filed to run in the primary and voters will elect two supervisors in November.
