Sewer, water rates to increase

May 16, 2007|by ANDREW SCHOTZ

WILLIAMSPORT - Sewer rates for town residents will go up 5 percent and water rates will increase 2.5 percent in the coming fiscal year, the Williamsport Town Council decided Monday.

Council members said they were passing along a 5 percent sewer rate increase from Washington County.

The Hagerstown City Council has not indicated it will raise its water rates.

However, a town memo says Councilman Earle R. Pereschuk Sr., who oversees water and sewer service for the town, "recommends an increase of 2.5 percent on water rates that will be reserved to offset a future water rate increase by Hagerstown."

The rate increases will take effect on July 1.
