Three council members OK bid

FUNKSTOWN - Three members of the Funkstown Council gave their approval Monday night to accept the low bid from a contractor to construct a pavilion at Community Park.

Town Clerk Brenda L. Haynes said she will call the other two council members, Richard Nigh and John W. Phillips III, and Assistant Mayor Paul N. Crampton Jr., who were not in attendance, to possibly find the fourth and deciding vote for permission to hire GRC General Contractor Inc.

GRC submitted the lowest bid at $28,985 to construct the pavilion. The highest bid was $43,950.

Haynes said Program Open Space will pay $54,000 of the project's $60,000 cost. Funkstown must come up with the remaining $6,000, she said.

Money that is left over potentially could be used to pay for additional landscaping and playground equipment at the park, she said.

Haynes said construction would start as soon as possible if a fourth council member agrees to hire GRC. The project must be completed 90 calendar days after Mayor Robert L. Kline signs the legislation, she said.
