You Said It

"Now would be a good time for the county to buy the old car wash property at the end of Bower Avenue at Virginia Avenue. With that additional property, the county could add a left-turn lane to alleviate the traffic backups on Bower Avenue. It is dangerous in the morning when the school buses are stopped at various points along Bower Avenue."

"The media is reporting that three of the six Islamic Fort Dix terrorists were in the U.S. illegally. There is no record of them entering the country. I wonder, did they walk across the Canadian border or the Mexican border?"

"I'm a middle-aged person who would like to be now called a Turk, Russian or African or whatever to get all the free things such as medical, housing, food, no taxes on my wages and everything else these people are getting. Why should I work the rest of my life barely getting by and these people getting all the benefits for nothing? If one can change their name legally, then can I change my nationally to be an illegal immigrant? Sign me up today!"

"We definitely, definitely need more police on Interstate 81 and 70. The guys that are out there are doing a good job, but I feel we need more. I was almost in a pileup on one of the entrance ramps onto 81 heading south. The lady ahead of me slowed up, and slowed up and there was no traffic coming. She started to pull over, so I thought she was going to actually stop. I went to go around and she sped up, forced me into the other lane of traffic. It's unbelievable how some of these people drive."

"I had a good laugh the other day. I was in the Valley Mall area. I saw this fellow had four American flags flying on his vehicle. But guess what? It was a foreign-made vehicle."

"Reading in Wednesday's Mail Call about the person from Hagerstown who can't stand wind chimes. Well, I'll tell you what, when it gets down to the wind chimes and you can't stand that, I don't think you have much to look forward to in life. You need to get a life."

"I think it's time for Dick Cheney to come clean with the American public. Who were those participants in that so-called energy summit he adjourned right before the energy crunch began two years ago? The use of the overworked excuse of executive privilege was invoked to keep us in the dark. I bet that those energy executives could give us some insight into those gas and related energy issues. Their timetable had to be fast-forwarded due to the conflict debate in Iraq and the disapproval right now afforded the president on what happened at that energy summit that Dick Cheney wants to keep secret. This administration has too many secrets that should be public knowledge."

"The Constitution allows citizens to own guns. The U.S. has more than 10,000 gun-related deaths each year. Countries that ban guns have less than 100. In fact, one has only two. Explain that."

"Roger Clemens makes $153,000 per day. You think that's ridiculous? What's ridiculous is that 50,000 or more baseball fans pay $25 to $100 and three hours of their time to see what is actually only 15 minutes of baseball. The rest is time between innings, between pitches and pitching changes, and other small things."

"I just want to say hats off to the County Commissioners for turning down the funding of the refugees. We have enough here and it's time we started taking care of our own. I think they made the right decision."

"This is for the person who suggested putting (criminals) in the service and sending them to Iraq. You sound as if you were never in the military and definitely never in combat. The all-volunteer military is made up of fine, proud and courageous men and women. The military is not a repository for the dregs of our society. In combat you need to know that the person watching your back can be trusted, and is not there because he committed felonies back in the states. You do a disservice to those young Americans fighting and dying in Iraq by even thinking of putting robbers, thieves and drug addicts alongside our brave brothers, sisters, sons and daughters. Think about it."

- Waynesboro, Pa.

"This is to the people of Hagers-town: If you visit the hospital, do not park in the handicapped spot on South Cannon Avenue. That's my wife's spot. I'm getting ready to call the police again. The city of Hagerstown has made $315 off of you all in the past three days. If you keep parking there, they'll be able to fix the potholes and everything. Do what you gotta do. It's a private spot. It says right on there 'Private Space.'"
