Budding authors honored for work

May 14, 2007

Nineteen budding authors submitted works to this year's Design an Easy Picture Book Contest sponsored by Washington County Free Library. As part of the library's National Library Week celebration, local residents were encouraged to write and illustrate a picture book for children.

Winning entries included:

· "Star & Roxy's Adventures" by 8-year-old Julie Hutzell. Her story tells of the escapades of two pet gerbils that decided to explore the great outdoors on a cold winter day.

· "In My Yard" by 11-year-old Nathaniel Laye is a story about backyard visitors.

· "Pat and Kit-Kat Have a Party" was written by Jessica Swarner and illustrated by Casey Caruso.

· "The Adventures of Princess Crowfeather" was written by Ulrike Warmuth.

Winners will receive a hardbound copy of their book, and an additional copy will be available at the Central Library for the public to read.
