Maryland Man publishes Hamilton biography

May 13, 2007

Lavale, Md. - Joseph A. Murray of LaVale has written a biography of Alexander Hamilton, called "Alexander Hamilton: America's Forgotten Founder."

Murray was born in Cumberland, Md., graduated from the former LaSalle High School, served in the United States Army for three years and graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He worked at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory for 34 years and retired in 1994. He and his wife, JoAnn, are the parents of two children, and have six grandchildren.

A long-time Civil War buff, Murray delved into the history of the American Revolution and the formation of the new government for the young republic after his retirement. In these readings his attention was caught by the ubiquity of Alexander Hamilton in most of the important events of that era, including the Revolution, the struggle to make independence work in America under the confederation, the Constitutional Convention and the formation of the new republican government under that constitution. His interest became more focused when he expanded his readings to include biographies of Hamilton.
