Every batter in North Hagerstown's starting lineup had at least two hits as the host Hubs routed winless Northwood 27-0 in 4 1/2 innings Friday in the first round of the Maryland Class 2A West softball playoffs.

The Hubs will play third-seeded Century in Sykesville, Md., in the region quarterfinals Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Kelly Toms and Ashley McCallister combined to pitch a no-hitter for North (9-9). Toms hurled the first four innings and McCallister pitched the fifth.

"I just pretty much threw all fastballs and I kept them low," said Toms, who had nine strikeouts. "My defense pretty much did all of the work. We didn't have any errors. Ashley did a good job in closing for the last three outs.

"Our hitters jumped on the first good pitch, which we haven't been doing, and that helped out a lot. We got the hits pretty much when we needed to. Everyone pretty much did well."

McCallister retired the side in order in the fifth.

"Kelly did a good job of pitching and Ashley did a nice job of finishing the game," North coach Amanda Fleming said. "The girls just really hit the ball well. They were hitting good pitches. They were really hustling on the bases and being aggressive. I told the girls to carry this momentum into our next playoff game on Monday and, hopefully, we'll hit the ball well."

Brooke Powell banged out four hits, Amelia Plank had four RBIs and Tanaishia Russ, Ashley Butler and Powell each had three RBIs and three runs scored for the Hubs.

Destanie Agee, the Hubs' leadoff batter, got two of her three hits in the first inning, while Russ got two of her three hits in the third inning. Toms also had three hits.

North scored eight runs in the first, five in the second, 11 in the third and three in the fourth.
