Police search for man in sexual assault of 11-year-old

May 12, 2007

Deputies continued to canvass the area around Oak Ridge Apartments on Friday, searching for the man who reportedly took an 11-year-old girl from her bed early Thursday and sexually assaulted her, Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore said.

The man was wearing a mask and told the girl not to look at him, Mullendore said. The man entered the residence through a window, he said.

Deputies still were following leads on Friday, but had no suspects, Mullendore said.

"There's not a whole lot to go on at this point," he said.

The child returned alone to her home on Thursday about 5 a.m. after apparently finding her way back to the apartment in the 10800 block of Downsville Pike.

She was taken to Washington County Hospital with her mother, according to Mullendore, who said there was evidence of sexual assault.

Mullendore said the assailant is described as a black man who was wearing an orange shirt and black pants. No vehicle was believed to be involved, Mullendore said.

Anyone with information on the incident may call the Washington County Sheriff's Department at 301-791-3020.
