Franklin Co. primary election results can be viewed online

May 11, 2007|by DON AINES

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - For the first time, residents of Franklin County will be able to track the results of an election as they come in without having to go to the Administrative Annex to see the numbers posted.

Results of the May 15 primary will be posted on the county's Web site at www.co.franklin.pa.us and on a link on The Herald-Mail Co. Web site at www.herald-mail.com, Deputy Chief Clerk Jean Byers said.

"They will be updated at least hourly, if not more," Byers said. Results will not be posted as each individual precinct is tabulated, but will show cumulative totals for the number of precincts tabulated by a certain time, she said.

For example, the Election Board usually releases a cumulative after about 25 of the 74 precincts have been counted and again at about 50 precincts until all the precincts have been counted.

Once on the county Web site, viewers will see an "I Voted" icon on the right margin. Above that, it reads "Coming soon Results for the Municipal Primary May 15, 2007."

"Click on that and the results will pop right up," Byers said.

Polls close at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Republican and Democratic nominations for the Board of County Commissioners will be determined in the primary, along with the Republican nominations for sheriff and controller. Nominations for school board seats in six districts and borough council and township boards of supervisor will also be chosen by voters in the primary.
