Girl, 11, abducted from home, sexually assaulted, police say

An 11-year-old girl was reportedly taken from her bed early this morning and sexually assaulted by a man who is still at large, Washington County Sheriff Doug Mullendore said.

The child returned to her home in the Oak Ridge Apartments around 5 a.m., Mullendore said. She was alone and apparently found her own way back to the apartment in the 10800 block of Oak Ridge Drive.

She was taken to Washington County Hospital with her mother, he said, adding there was evidence of sexual assault.

The assailant is described only as a black man wearing an orange shirt and black pants, Mullendore said. No vehicle was believed to be involved.

"We searched with K-9 and helicopters and found no one," Mullendore said. The crime scene is being processed in hopes of finding any evidence to help in the apprehension.

Because of the short time frame involved, Mullendore said it doesn't seem likely the child was taken too far from her home where she lived with her mother and other younger children.

No further information was available on how she was able to get away and return home.

All police in the area are on the lookout for the suspect and are asking anyone with information to call 301-791-3020.
