HAGERSTOWN - Cars, camping trailers and chrome are among the prizes that await raffle winners this weekend at a firefighters' fundraiser at Hagerstown Speedway.

Hagerstown Fire Department firefighter Joey Chojnacki said tickets for the second annual Bonanza Extravaganza are going so fast that volunteers are struggling to update their database. Just like last year, Chojnacki said, the event is on track to sell out.

"They're going very well," Chojnacki said.

Bonanza Extravaganza raises money for volunteer fire and rescue organizations and the foundation that represents International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1605. Chojnacki said that last year $40,000 went to Children's Village, where elementary school students learn about fire and injury prevention, and about $55,000 went to rescue companies that helped out at the event.

Chojnacki estimated Tuesday that 8,500 to 9,000 tickets had been sold. Firefighter Rick Conrad has said 10,000 tickets are available.

To be eligible for prizes, which include cash, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Chevrolet vehicles, people must purchase $100 tickets.

The top prize is $100,000.

Chojnacki said volunteers from 14 of Washington County's rescue companies and Clear Spring High School will help with the event, which includes live music and catering Friday and Saturday.

"We couldn't pull this off by ourselves. It's just too large," Chojnacki said.
