May 08, 2007

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - A tree falling on power lines was the cause of a woods fire Sunday afternoon in the 1800 block of Buck Hill Road in Berkeley County, W.Va., according to Back Creek Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Jay Walling.

The fire was reported after 2 p.m. and burned about five acres, Walling said. No property was threatened by the fire and no one was injured, he said.

"We had some access problems. We had to cut a few roads in" to get to the fire, Walling said. Firefighters were there until about 6:45 p.m., he said.

Firefighters from the South Berkeley, Baker Heights, Hedgesville and Bedington fire companies helped put out the fire, along with firefighters from the Clearbrook Fire Co. in Frederick County, Va., Walling said.
