Spring art show announced

Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery Inc. will hold a juried art show themed "Spring Fling - Birds & Flowers." The show is open to all art media. Entries must be submitted by 3 p.m. Sunday, May 13.

Three pieces are allowed per artist. The entry fee is $25. Entries will be judged by Richard C. Torres and Chris Baker.

Song-writing academy set

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The NewSong Academy returns to Shepherdstown Thursday, Aug. 9, through Saturday, Aug. 11. This year's instructors include Susan Werner, Paul Reisler, Jason Blume and Craig Bickhardt. Now in its third year, the songwriting and performance workshops will be held in venues around Shepherdstown.

The NewSong Academy closes on Saturday, Aug. 11, with the NewSong Academy Concert, featuring its faculty and special guests in the Frank Performing Arts Center at Shepherd University. And for the first time this year, one Academy student will be selected to advance to the sixth annual international Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, which will be held as part of this summer's River to River Festival in New York City.
