VIENNA, W.Va. - Tournament MVP Mia Zappacosta scattered eight hits to notch the shutout and Shepherd University blanked University of Charleston 2-0 to win the West Virginia Conference softball tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Zappacostam went 3-0 in the tournament to raise her record to 14-4.
Shepherd scored the game's only runs in the fourth inning. Zappacosta doubled and scored on a single by Amy Edmondson, who later scored on Rebekah Walsh's single.
Rams outfielder April Przygocki gunned down Charleston runner Brittany Stogdale at the plate in the second inning. Michelle Lee singled to send Stogdale home, but Przygocki threw a strike to catcher Amanda Orkoskey.
Shortstop Courtni Williams and pitcher Alicia Brandenburg joined Zappacosta on the All-tournament team. The Rams allowed just one run in the tournament.
