May 04, 2007

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Two men were arraigned on Thursday for allegedly burglarizing a home and taking a hot water heater and a furnace because one man's father was sick, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Gary David VanHorn of 739 Loop Road, Gerrardstown, W.Va., and Robert William Orr of P.O. Box 236, Inwood, W.Va., each were charged by West Virginia State Police Trooper M.D. Gillmore with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and aiding/abetting burglary, records show.

Both were arraigned on Thursday by Magistrate Harry L. Snow who set a $30,000 bond for each of them.

Gillmore and Trooper D.S. See were dispatched to a residence off Walter Drive about 7 p.m. on Wednesday to investigate the crime and while outside the home saw a dump truck traveling on Walter Drive that matched a description of the vehicle seen leaving the property, Gillmore said.

The vehicle was stopped and police questioned Orr, who was driving the truck, Gillmore said.

"Mr. Orr stated that he and Mr. VanHorn took the hot water heater because Mr. Vanhorn's father was sick and they needed a new hot water heater," according to Gillmore's complaint.

VanHorn gave a similar statement, Gillmore said.
