Power take series

May 04, 2007

West Virginia roughed up Hagerstown starter Edulin Abreu for seven runs in 2 1/3 innings and the Suns never recovered, falling 10-5 Thursday night as the Power took three of four in the series at Municipal Stadium.

West Virginia, the South Atlantic League Northern Division leader at 19-5, scored six runs in the top of the third to take a 7-1 lead. The key blow was Kenneth Holmberg's two-run double to left field that knocked Abreu (0-2) out of the game.

The Suns (10-17) answered with four runs in the bottom of the third. Michael Daniel hit an RBI single and Christopher Marrero followed with fourth homer of the year, a three-run shot to center, to make it 7-5.

Hagerstown didn't score again, while the Power added single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh.

Marcos Cabral and Marrero each had two of the Suns' seven hits.
