Reading Day planned at Valley Mall

Washington County Reading Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Valley Mall in Hagerstown.

More than 1,700 children's books will be given to children attending the event. There will be readings by children's book authors Mary Downing Hahn, author of "Wait Till Helen Comes" and "Stepping on the Cracks," and Deborah Guarino, author of "Is Your Mama a Llama?" Squiggles the Bookworm and a library bookmobile will be present, and there will be pony rides in the mall's parking lot.

Washington County Public Schools will hand out summer reading diaries for kids to use to record their summer reading. Diaries can be brought to Washington County Free Library throughout the summer to collect prizes.
