Dance raises $1,202 for REACH

May 04, 2007

The Hagerstown Country Western Dance Association held its annual benefit dance April 14. The $1,202 raised at this year's event was presented to REACH (Religious Effort to Assist and Care for the Homeless). Much of the money was raised through a silent auction of items donated by club members and Susquehanna Bank. Longtime club members Howard and Vicki Renner raised $84 by selling hugs - $1 for a "regular" hug and $2 for a "big" hug. Another member, Ethel Carbaugh, baked pies and cakes that were a big hit at the silent auction. The club holds dances on the second and fourth Saturdays each month at the Maugansville Ruritan Club hall from 8 to 11 p.m. and sponsors eight-week line dancing classes at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Tuesdays in the spring and fall.
