Anna M. Bilsborough, 88



OCT. 9, 1918-APRIL 30, 2007

Anna Mary Claire Bilsborough, 88, of 1858 Abbey Lane, Hagerstown, died Monday, April 30, 2007, at her home.

Born Oct. 9, 1918, in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John Martin and Elizabeth Ploss Stingle.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Ezra Bilsborough.

She was a nurse at Ransomville Hospital in New York.

She was a member of the Free Methodist Church Women's Auxiliary in Ransomville, N.Y. and the PTA.

She was involved in the preservation of books for the next generation and an adopted mother to zoo animals.

She is survived by two daughters, Arlene House of Hagerstown and Avis King of Ellicottville, N.Y.; three grandsons, Mika Penvose, Jason Penvose and Kevin King; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Pittsfield, Pa. The Rev. Marie Desmond will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Chris E. Jones, 48

FAIRPLAY, Md. - Chris Eugene Jones, 48, of 18027 Tilghmanton Road, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at his home.

Born March 26, 1959, in Washington County, he was the son of Connie Jean Hurd Jones Wolinski of Hagerstown and the late William Jennings Jones.

He was a painter.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, Chad W. Jones of Williamsport; three sisters, Cindy J. Jones and Karen K. Martin, both of Hagerstown, and Lisa I. Myers of Downsville; two brothers, John H. Jones of Boonsboro and Brett W. Jones of Sharpsburg; his companion, Linda Livering of Fairplay; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Pastor Joe Tweed will officiate. Burial will be at Manor Cemetery in Tilghmanton, Md.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

J. Joseph Stewart, 93

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - J. Joseph "Little Joe" Stewart, 93, of Apt. 623 Foulger St., died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, in Waynesboro.

Born Sept. 27, 1913 in Bunker Hill, W.Va., he was the son of the late David H. and Ida May Hill Stewart.

He had been a self-employed truck driver, hauling coal.

He was a member of Eagles Club Inc. and Order of the Owls Nest 1073, both of Waynesboro.

He is survived by three daughters, Joanne D. Crider of Waynesboro, Linda K. Bumbaugh of Chambersburg, Pa., and Debbie S. Cassidy of San Antonio, N.M.; one son, Allen B. Stewart of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Brown and Della Sites; and three brothers, Robert Stewart, Paul Stewart, and Marvin Stewart.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The Rev. Wilbur L. Sites will officiate. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery in Rouzerville, Pa.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth V. Whitesell, 86

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Ruth Viola Whitesell, 86, of Alexandria, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 29th, 2007, at Sunrise of Mount Vernon Assisted Living in Alexandria.

Born Dec. 4, 1920, in Springfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late George and Lois (Horne) McEwan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Whitesell, in 2003.

She was a member of Unitarian Universalist Church in Hagerstown.

She was a graduate of Northfield School for Girls in East Northfield, Mass. and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College in 1942 and a masters degree in library science from Shippensburg University.

She served in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE during World War II.

She retired from Washington County Public Schools as a teacher and librarian.

She was a member of Fountain Head Country Club, Morris Frock American Legion, AAUW, Womens Club and League of Women Voters.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan Strauber of Grinnell, Iowa; one son, Bob Whitesell of Alexandria; one sister, Jean Parker of Annapolis, Md; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. The Rev. Valerie Wills will officiate. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.
