Hedgesville woman injured in carjacking

May 03, 2007

WILLIAMSPORT - A 48-year-old Hedgesville, W.Va., woman was injured in a carjacking Wednesday near the scene of an armed robbery at a pharmacy in Williamsport, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Lt. Travers Ruppert said late Wednesday that police believed the robbery, which was reported at about 10 a.m. at Williamsport Pharmacy, and the carjacking were related.

Police said the woman sustained injuries that were not life-threatening after she was carjacked by a man near Md. 68 and Spielman Road. Police said the woman had seen the male crash his vehicle, and when she stopped to check on his condition, he entered her vehicle. The woman drove a short distance on Spielman Road before the carjacker told her to get out of the vehicle, police said.

Police said the carjacking was reported as officers were responding to the pharmacy at 31 N. Conococheague St., where a gunman stole an unspecified amount of OxyContin and other prescriptions. The robber fled on foot, police said.

The Sheriff's Department found the woman's 1998 Isuzu Amigo in the Avis Mill Road area.

The woman was treated at Washington County Hospital and released, police said.
