Replacing of Washington County health officer still pending

May 02, 2007|by ANDREW SCHOTZ

Washington County is still waiting for a new health officer.

More than two months after county officials recommended someone to fill the vacant position, the state's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has not made a decision.

The matter is pending with the department's secretary, DHMH spokesman John Hammond said Tuesday.

Washington County Commissioner James F. Kercheval said last month that the county recommended someone to the state in late February after reviewing 15 to 20 rsums.

The position has been vacant since October, when William Christoffel retired.

Deputy Health Officer Earl Stoner has been sharing duties with Frederick County Health Officer Barbara Brookmyer.
