Children's Village to hold Kids Alive Fest May 19

Children's Village of Washington County will host its 16th annual Kids Alive Fest on Saturday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is a combination open house/community safety day at the Children's Village campus, 1546 Mount Aetna Road in Hagerstown.

Admission is free at the event which is rain or shine.

Two area children will be inducted into the Children's Village Life Safety Hall of Fame at a ceremony beginning at 11:45 a.m.

The youngsters - one from Washington County and the other from Franklin County, Pa. - are being honored for implementing skills they learned and practiced as students at Children's Village to effectively handle two separate emergency situations that occurred at each of their homes.

The day's other activities will include K-9 demonstrations at 12:30 p.m. (Maryland Correctional Institution); auto extrication demonstration at 1:15 a.m. (Maugansville Fire Dept); a Ronald McDonald Safety Show at 2 p.m.; car seat safety checks throughout the day, (Brethren Mutual Insurance parking lot); and child I.D. (Gaye McGovern Insurance Agency, State Farm Insurance).


Weather permitting, the Maryland State Police medevac helicopter, mini-car rides and a radar gun contest will be held.

Other events include family safety stations and a junior firefighters combat challenge and continuous tours of the Power of Fire House.

Bike raffles, "Sparky" the fire dog, as well as food and fun will be part of the day's festivities.

Event sponsors are Sovereign Bank and Susquehanna Bank.

Children's Village of Washington County Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing free life-safety education to elementary school children in Washington County.
