Design a car. Win $1,500.

May 01, 2007

What do you want in your ride? Custom paint? Built-in PS3 and high-end Bluetooth Macintosh computer? A grill?

The sky is the limit in a car-design contest now under way at Younger Scion in Hagerstown.

"The idea's wide open. I want some wacky stuff," said John Lowry, manager of Younger Scion. "I'd like to see people express their interests - sports, computers, business, sci-fi."

High school juniors and seniors who live in the Tri-State area are eligible to enter the contest by designing a 2008 Scion xB. Entrants must produce a design - flat or three-dimensional - of their customized Scion. Drop off entries at Younger Scion by the close of business Tuesday, May 29. Entries must have name and phone number of designer.

Entries will be displayed June 10 at Valley Mall in Halfway. The winner will be unveiled July 21 at Younger. The winning design will be built as close to the submitted design as possible and offered for sale. The winning designer will receive a $1,500 scholarship to the college of his or her choice.

Entries will be evaluated on concept and execution, but the main thing is to have fun, Lowry said.

"I really want people to have fun with it," Lowry said. "And I'd love it if, (for) the person who won, the money would really make a difference for them."
