The Pulse writing team invites readers to attend a special showing of public service announcements put together by local teens. The PSAs were created for a contest with the theme "sex has consequences." The PSAs are designed to help lower the teen pregnancy rate in Washington County.

Awards will be given to winning entries in the PSA contest, which is sponsored by the Washington County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition. The awards ceremony begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at The Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown and includes refreshments, live music and door prizes. Admission is free.

Three kinds of PSAs were entered in the contest - print ads, 30-second TV spots and short films. A team of Pulse writers submitted an entry in the short film section of the contest. Sara Martens and Stephen Barber - shown above in a still from the film - play a young couple who face the possibility of pregnancy. Sara wrote the script; Rowan Copley directed, photographed and edited the film. Other Pulse members who cast and crew members for the film are Fedora Copley, Sally Newlin, Darcy Shull and Alan Sokol.
