April 30, 2007

Members of the Academy of Finance and the South Hagerstown High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America recently toured the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington D.C.

The Federal Reserve System is a network of 12 federal reserve banks and a number of branches under the general oversight of a board of governors. The primary responsibility of the board is to set monetary policy. Students toured the Marriner S. Eccles Federal Reserve Board Building on Constitution Avenue.

Students also toured other locations, including the Lincoln Memorial, the reflecting pool and the Washington Monument.

Members in attendance included Joe Bender, Charles Boyer, Casey Carpenter, Ross Carpenter, Kelly Carson, Stephanie Edwards, Brittany Funk, Megan Huntsberger, Rebecca Kennedy, Baker Nababi, Michael Spalding, Devin Witman and Nick Ziolowski. Students were chaperoned by advisers C. JoAnne Knode and Daniel Litten.

The Washington County Academy of Finance provides an academic program that focuses on a concentrated study of the financial-services industry. The objective of the academy is to orient students to expanding businesses and financial institutions, and to prepare students for career opportunities in both fields.
