Pvt. Robert L. Wood Jr., son of Robert and Nancy Wood of Maugansville, graduated first squad leader from Marine Corps basic training at Parris Island, Beaufort, S.C., on March 2.

Wood is a 2006 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

After basic training, Wood went to the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, N.C., and is stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds Army Depot Marine Detachment in Aberdeen, Md., undergoing schooling for ordnance/small-weapons repair. His permanent duty station is unknown at this time.




Sr. Airman Ralph "Chip" Kershner III, son of Skip and Diane Kershner of Falling Waters, W.Va., and grandson of Dorothea Kershner of Hagerstown, was named Airman of the Year for 2006.

Kershner is stationed in Korea.

He is a 2000 graduate of Smithsburg High School.




Pvt. Mike Minnichbach, son of Jim and Cindy Minnichbach of Hagers-town, graduated March 30 from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Okla.

Minnichbach will complete his AIT training at Fort Bliss, Texas, where he will be stationed for five months.

He is a 2006 graduate of Boonsboro High School.




Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Justin D. Wilt, son of Robin Wilt of Hedgesville, W.Va., and nephew of Cynthia Manor of Martinsburg, W.Va., graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Wilt earned distinction as an honor graduate of the course.

He is a 2006 graduate of Hedgesville High School.




Air Force Airman Andrew T. Peterson, son of Robin Peterson of Chambersburg, Pa., and Jonathan Peterson of Williamson, Pa., graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Peterson earned distinction as an honor graduate of the course.

He is a 2006 graduate of Cumberland Valley Christian School, Chambersburg.
