Discovery station gets grant for field trips

April 27, 2007

Discovery Station, at 101 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown, has received a $14,000 grant from the Citigroup Foundation. The money is being used for a number of field trips from Washington County Public Schools.

"Hundreds of fourth-graders from Washington County will be coming to Discovery Station in the next several weeks," Discovery Station President Marie Byers said.

Byers said that about eight schools have booked field trips so far, with as many as 100 students and staff per field trip.

The Citigroup Foundation assists with local educational programs, according to Deb Gorbsky, site president of Citi Hagerstown.

"Enhancing educational opportunities helps to better prepare the next generation for personal and professional success," Gorbsky said.

Discovery Station creates exciting hands-on learning experiences that stimulate a curiosity for discovery, exploration and further investigation by children and adults to foster lifelong learning. The programs and interactive exhibits on science, technology and history are unique educational resources available to all visitors.
