Join the Music Parade!

Activities: A week learning about music. Through explorations and the creating of our own musical instruments, we will discover how sound is produced, how to change tone and pitch, as well as ways that music is used to inspire and entertain.

Summer Institute for the Arts

Dates: July 30 to Aug. 11

Place: Paramount Elementary School in Hagerstown and Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick, Md.

Ages: 8 to 18

Activities: Students will have a blast this summer as they create a world-premiere musical production of The Phantom Tollbooth to be performed at the Weinberg Center for the Arts. This two-week camp offers a wide range of activities and parallel programs tailored to students' ages, interests, and experience. Highlights include guest performances and student-teacher collaboration with highly trained professionals in the performing arts.

Cost: This two-week camp is $315 by May 19 and $350 after May 19. Tuition includes camp T-shirt, snacks, crafts, CD and DVD of final performance. Enrollment is a rolling admission and students may sign up until July 30. Final casting will occur on July 30. Student preview is available May 19.

Sand, Sea, and Creatures, Oh My!

It's Alive!

Dates: July 2-6

Place: Hagerstown Community College

Ages: grades 4 to 5

Activities: Come and explore plants, animals and even yourself in this biological bonanza. Learn how plants grow, survive and even change the neat things that happen everyday inside your body and how the animal kingdom works together to stay alive through hands-on activities in the lab. If you are ready to be the biology brain, then get ready for "It's Alive!" This is a four-day course. Class will not meet July 4.

I Spy ...

Guitar Week

Dates: July 30 to Aug. 3

Place: Hagerstown Community College

Ages: grades 6 to 8

Activities: Open to beginning and intermediate guitarists in grades 6 to 8. Includes lessons in guitar technique, song-writing, music theory and ensemble performance. Students also will participate in other music related activities like researching their favorite band, learning about careers in music, and art & crafts. Materials fee includes textbook. Participants must bring their own instrument.
