Indians' Minnich matches his own HR record

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Indians junior Nathan Minnich hit his eighth home run of the year - tying the school single-season record he set as a freshman - and Zach Helman had three hits and three RBI as No. 3 Waynesboro defeated Big Spring 13-3 on Wednesday in a Mid-Penn Colonial game.

Chris Arendt struck out five for the Indians (10-2, 8-0).

No. 5 Martinsburg 6, James Wood 4

WINCHESTER, Va. - Brandon King went 3-for-4, including the game-winning, two-run home run, to lead the Bulldogs.

Zach Newhouse went 3-for-3 with two doubles for Martinsburg (16-6).

No. 6 Greencastle 15, Milton Hershey 0

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Drew Bittner threw a one-hitter and had two hits and two RBI as Greencastle beat Milton Hershey.

Alex Izer hit a home run and Timmy Armstrong went 3-for-3 with three RBI for the Blue Devils (9-4, 8-1 Mid-Penn Capital).


No. 7 Mercersburg 19, Musselman 3

INWOOD, W.Va. - Cord Heine homered and finished with four RBI as Mercersburg Academy pounded out 19 hits in a win over Musselman.

Dan Gottlieb had three hits and two RBI and Dusty French had two hits and three RBI for the Blue Storm (10-5). David O'Brien struck out 10 in the complete-game win.

Ricky Frame had two hits and two RBI for the Applemen (10-14).

Musselman 13, Hampshire 7

INWOOD, W.Va. - Ricky Frame, Jeremy Cunningham and Jimmy Osbourne each homered as Musselman defeated Hampshire on Tuesday.

Frame had four RBI, Cunningham had three hits and two RBI, Ryan Larose had three hits and three RBI and Alex Loizos had two hits for the Applemen.

Catoctin 6-3, Boonsboro 4-9

THURMONT, Md. - Boonsboro scored nine runs on a season-high 17 hits in the nightcap to split a doubleheader against Catoctin in the MVAL Antietam.

Josh Anders had three hits, including a home run, and Jake Pendergraft had two hits and a three-run homer to lead the Warriors (8-4, 6-4). Aaron Dixon, Adam Chambers and Chris Selby had three hits each, while Pendergraft picked up the complete-game win.

In the opener, Kyle Kane hit his third home run of the season, Chambers had three hits and two RBI, and Chris Selby added two hits for Boonsboro.

Brunswick 8, Clear Spring 0

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Seth Haines threw a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts as Brunswick beat Clear Spring (6-5, 3-5) in the MVAL Antietam.

Seth Keyser, Kyle Foltz and Chris Wilkins had two RBI each for the Railroaders (6-8, 5-5).

No. 1 Jefferson 3, Berkeley Springs 2

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Jefferson was held to just two hits, but drew seven walks and stole 11 bases in Tuesday's victory.

The Cougars (19-2) scored on an error in the first inning and added two more runs in the second to make it 3-1, scoring on a balk and getting an RBI single from Justin Grantham.

Drew Stevens (3-0) pitched 6 2/3 innings of relief for Jefferson.

Jake Freels and Nick Campanelli combined on the two-hitter for Berkeley Springs (9-7).


No. 1 Hedgesville 6, No. 5 Jefferson 5

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Heather Payne hit a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to drive home Chelsea Oals from second as Hedgesville defeated Jefferson.

Sara Forney hit a two-run double for the Eagles (21-3, 7-1 Apple Valley League).

Tiffany Biggs and Tori Hutto each had two hits for Jefferson.

South 7, Smithsburg 2

Chelsea Showe tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts as South Hagerstown beat Smithsburg (2-9, 1-8) in the MVAL Antietam.

Brittany Hyatt and Elizabeth Sharpe each homered for the Rebels (4-8, 3-7).

Catoctin 12-12, Boonsboro 3-5

THURMONT, Md. - Jaime Denato had two hits in the first game for the Warriors, who were swept by Catoctin in an MVAL Antietam doubleheader.

Courtney Alves had two hits in the nightcap for Boonsboro.

Chambersburg 8, Shippensburg 0

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Allison Rife threw a three-hitter and struck out 10 for the Trojans.

Kayla Preisler had a three-run home run in the second inning for Chambersburg (7-3).

Southern Fulton 11, McConnellsburg 1

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Keena Elbin had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs as Southern Fulton beat McConnellsburg.

Natasha Bard had two hits and Courtney Trainor had two RBI for the Indians (8-3, 4-3 Sideling Hill League).


Smithsburg 15, Brunswick 9

SMITHSBURG - Joe Cacciola had four goals and two assists and Dan Rinebolt also scored four goals to lead the Leopards.

Craig Trueblood notched three goals and an assist, while Josh Ritchie and Brendan Roberts each added two goals for Smithsburg (7-2, 5-0). Brett Nieves added an assist, while Nick Hoban made 28 saves.

Brunswick falls to 2-7, 1-3.

Mercersberg 9, Chambersburg 2

MERCERSBERG, Pa. - Scott Nehrbas had five goals to lead the Blue Storm past the Trojans.

Aidan Crofton had two goals and two assists, Miles Dowling had a goal and an assist, Adam Ryan had a goal and four assists, and Andrew Reichardt added an assist for Mercersburg Academy. David Chakola made 11 saves.
