Jefferson's Campbell fires one-hit gem against Hedgesville

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Brandon Campbell tossed a one-hitter and top-ranked Jefferson made a first-inning run stand up as the Cougars beat Hedgesville 1-0 on Monday.

The Cougars (18-2) scored the lone run of the game when Justin Grantham reached on an error, moved to second on an infield out and came around on a single by Jonathan Hash.

Campbell made that run count, allowing only a two-out double to Hedgesville's Michael Lopez in the third inning. Campbell struck out 10 and walked only one for his fourth win.


Andrew Snyder went the distance for Hedgesville (9-11), striking out three.

No. 2 South Hagerstown 7, Clear Spring 4

CLEAR SPRING, Md. - Zeke Ricketts and Pat Mertz had two hits each as South Hagerstown beat Clear Spring in an MVAL Antietam game.

Spencer Cromer picked up his fourth save of the year for the first-place Rebels (10-1, 8-0).

Jon Kehr hit a home run and Adam Mills had two hits for Clear Spring (5-4, 3-4).

No. 3 Waynesboro 6, East Pennsboro 3

ENOLA, Pa. - Chris Arendt and Jamison Walck each homered as Waynesboro defeated East Pennsboro (0-10, 0-8) in a Mid-Penn Colonial game.

Matt Anderson had three hits and two RBI and Joe Minnich struck out five in a complete-game win for the Indians (9-2, 7-0).

No. 4 Chambersburg 14, CD East 2

COLONIAL PARK, Pa. - Brian Massimilla had four RBI and Waynesboro took advantage of 16 walks and three hit batsmen in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth win over Central Dauphin East (4-8, 2-5).

Sean Kline surrendered one earned run in a complete-game win for the Trojans (7-3, 3-3).

No. 6 Greencastle 13, Steel-High 3

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Grant Meyers went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs as Greencastle beat Steel-High.

Rusty Cordell, Alex Izer, and Jared Doyle had two RBI each for the Blue Devils (8-4).

Brunswick 14, North Hagerstown 6

Brunswick (5-8, 4-5) took advantage of eight North Hagerstown errors and scored 11 runs in the fifth inning to send the Hubs to their fifth straight loss.

Steve Younker had an RBI triple and Carl Spessard and Chase Worthington each had an RBI double for the Hubs (5-6, 3-5).

Smithsburg 8, Catoctin 7

SMITHSBURG - Josh Conway hit a grand slam in a five-run sixth inning to help Smithsburg rally from a 7-0 deficit and beat Catoctin in an MVAL Antietam game.

The Leopards scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Josh Bodine had a one-out single and pinch-runner Bobby Miller went to second on a fielder's choice. Kevin Tyler and Matt Schriver each walked. Conway then ripped a ball to short that was mishandled, allowing Miller to score for the Leopards (4-8, 2-6 MVAL).

Jake Staebler pitched four innings of relief, allowing three hits and one run for the Leopards.

Musselman 10, Goretti 0

Mark Darlington went 4-for-4, including two triples, and five RBI as Musselman defeated St. Maria Goretti in an Apple Valley League game at Municipal Stadium.

Darlington and Ricky Frame combined for a three-hitter and Jesse Miner had two hits for the Applemen (10-10, 3-2).

J.J. O'Neill had two hits for the Gaels (4-7, 0-4).

S. Fulton 11, Hyndman 1

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Logan Fischer went three-for-three, including a double and drove in two runs as Southern Fulton beat Hyndman.

Jesse Smartt threw a one-hitter for the Indians and had four strikeouts (6-3).

Clear Spring 7, Boonsboro 5

BOONSBORO, Md. - Nathan Mills had seven strikeouts as Clear Spring beat Boonsboro on Friday.

Brandon Glazer went 2-for-2 and Jordan Thurber had two RBI for the Blazers.

Aaron Dixon went 3-for-4 for the Warriors.


No. 3 Greencastle 36, Steel-High 0

STEELTON, Pa. - Greencastle totalled 15 hits, including four home runs, and 21 walks and scored double-digit runs in every inning of a Mid-Penn Capital win over Steel-High (0-5, 0-5).

Rochelle Christman had a grand slam and eight RBI, Steph Zeis hit a grand slam, Brittany Main had three hits, including a home run and five RBI, and Megan Roadcap had a three-run home run for the Blue Devils (8-2, 6-1).

Brittany Main pitched three no-hit innings to notch the win.

No. 4 Waynesboro 9E, ast Pennsboro 7

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Winning pitcher Taryn Ashway went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Waynesboro to a Mid-Penn Colonial victory over East Pennsboro.

Mallory Wishard had three hits and three RBIs, while Emily Wilson, Emily Masters, Boo Kuhn each had two hits for the Maidens (6-2, 5-1). Ashway struck out 10.

Clear Spring 4, South Hagerstown 3

CLEAR SPRING - Clear Spring was held to one hit but used a four-run second inning to defeat South Hagerstown in an MVAL Antietam game.

Alisha Commer had an RBI single and D.J. McDonough picked up the complete-game victory for the Blazers (3-7, 2-6).

Brittany Hyatt had a home run for the Rebels (2-7, 3-8).

Brunswick 3, North Hagerstown 0

Kelly Toms stuck out six and allowed three uneared runs for North Hagerstown (4-7, 4-4) in a loss to MVAL Antietam leader Brunswick.

Becky Kaler pitched a three-hitter for the Railroaders (10-2, 8-1)

Catoctin 6, Smithsburg 5
