Childbirth education

FREDERICK, Md. -Frederick Memorial Hospital Wellness Center will offer a one-day childbirth education class on Saturday, April 28, May 12 and 19, June 9 and 30, and July 21. Eating disorders education

FREDERICK, Md. - "Eating Disorders: What You Need to Know" will be presented by Linda Ullom from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Fort Detrick, NCI cafeteria. Bring a brown bag lunch or purchase one at the cafeteria on base. For information about getting on base, call 301-694-9002.

Pilates class

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Commission will offer a Pilates class. Using core muscles, Pilates strengthens, lengthens and tones the whole body. The instructors will take participants through the first 10 moves and beyond. Pilates will create firm abdominal muscles with mat exercises and the use of a variety of props. Classes will be held at Jefferson County Community Center, 235 Sam Michaels Lane. The cost is $35 per session.

Ultimate Frisbee season at YMCA

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -The Chambersburg YMCA's 2007 spring Ultimate Frisbee season is open for individual and team registration. The adult league is open to participants in ninth grade or older. The season will start at the end of April and run through June at a field to be announced. League cost is $110 for team registration. Individuals also can register for $20; teams will be formed to participate in the league.

Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact sport that has the movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football. It is played by two seven-player squads with a plastic disc on a field similar to football.

The Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic will offer activities in observance of Cover the Uninsured Week.

· Monday, April 23 - 3 to 6 p.m. Open house at Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic with media coverage and the mayor proclaiming the week officially "Cover the Uninsured Week."

· Tuesday, April 24 - 3 to 6 p.m. Health fair at Starting Points Family Resource Center Soup Kitchen in Morgan County, W.Va. Screening will include blood pressures and blood sugars.

· Wednesday, April 25 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Health fair at WorkForce WV Career Center in the old GM building in Martinsburg. Screening will include blood pressures and blood sugars.

· Thursday, April 26 - 9 a.m. to noon. Health fair at the Horseman's Benevolent and Protective Agency in Jefferson County. 6 to 8 p.m. at Family Resource Center in Morgan County. Screenings will include blood pressures and blood sugars.

· Friday, April 27 - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Health fair at Save A Lot store in Charles Town, W.Va. Screening will include blood pressures and blood sugars.

· Saturday, April 28 - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Health fair at Martinsburg Wal-Mart. Screening will include blood pressures and blood sugars.

· Saturday, May 5 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Car show and health fair at Jefferson County Fair Grounds. Screening will include blood pressures and blood sugars.

YMCA race dates

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -Chambersburg YMCA announces the dates for two races.

YMCA Tri Club will conduct a beginner/intermediate-level duathlon at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 28. A duathlon is a race which includes running and biking segments followed by a run. The Lactic Acid Duathlon will be a three-mile run followed by a 15-mile bike ride on paved roads and concluded with a three-mile run. Participants ages 12 and older are welcome. The Chambersburg YMCA will hold its annual Pump-n-Run 5-kilometer race at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 2. The event begins with a bench press. The 5-kilometer and family 1-kilometer events will be held at 9:30 a.m. Call Michele Sheppard at 717-263-8508 for information.

Eating for life program

FREDERICK, Md. - The Common Market Natural Foods Co-op, Evergreen Square, 5728 Buckeystown Pike Unit 1-B, will host the fourth installment of "Better Eating for Life," at 2 and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28. "Better Eating for Life" is a guide to great nutrition developed by Mary Saucier Choate.

Nutrition educator Linda Pruce will discuss this month's topic, "Dine Defensively."
