You Said It

April 23, 2007

"I'd like to put in a vote of thanks for all the people, all the workers and nurses aides on the eighth floor at Washington County Hospital. I was just in there for a week and they all treated me wonderfully. And especially to Julie, who helped me get my walker that I needed so bad. Thank you all."

- Hagerstown

"To all the people who would like the new hospital built in Downsville who say that the doctors want it built on Robinwood so they don't have to travel far from their offices: Have you ever had a heart attack or a real medical emergency? Response time is very important, and if you're having a heart attack, for example, do you think your doctor will be able to get there in time with all the traffic and stop lights to save you? Well, think again, because you'll be dead. Build it at Robinwood where it belongs, and start it now."

"Thought for the day: If you do not believe in evil, you are not paying attention."

- Hagerstown

"How can gas be $2.36 in Mercersburg and $2.85 in Hagerstown? That is a winner."

- Hagerstown

"To the person calling in complaining about the kids flying their kites in residential street: Our kids don't have anything to do in this town as it is, and now you want to complain about something that they are doing."

- Boonsboro

"To the caller who said there ought to be soundproof rooms in restaurants for people who have kids: What you're suggesting is age discrimination. Why not make a soundproof room for people that have nothing better to do than complain, like yourself? After all, misery loves company."

"I'd like to comment about the letter that's in the paper today. She stated that if we withdrew our troops today, it would just get worse. I'd like to say that if the president keeps on prolonging their stay over there, nothing is getting solved and it's getting worse with their stay over there. I feel that a lot of American people can still be all for the troops and all but still be against the president for prolonging this war over in Iraq. When are people gonna get it - that this war was uncalled for?"

"I'd like to know if there are any Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts or anybody who collects newspapers and could pick them up. If they'd leave their number in the paper, I'd call them. I end up with a lot of spare newspapers."

"Certain people are angry that the U.S. might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country, and once here, stay indefinitely. Let's say I break into your house. If I understand the thinking behind the protesters going on because of this. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist I leave, but I say I've made all the beds, washed the dishes, did the laundry and swept the floors. I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hardworking and honest, except for when I broke into your house, according to the protesters back several months. You are required to let me stay in your house, add me to your insurance plan, to educate my kids, to provide other benefits to me and my family. My husband will do all your yard work because he also is hardworking and honest, except for breaking into your house. If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends, who will picket your house, carry signs and proclaim my right to be there. It's only, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do and I'm trying to better myself."

"In reference to the Wednesday, April 18, Morning Herald, page 3, 'Questions arise over funding for Barbara Ingram School of Arts': Here we have almost 90 portable classrooms in this county. Vincent Groh gave the theater to the county for $1. Now they want to go ahead and remodel this school for dance and the arts, for $9 million, not counting what they've already spent on it, with another 5.5 percent. Do we really need that, or do we need schools? The building is free and we know we need more middle and more high schools. Wake up, BOE. Wake up, county commissioners. Enough is enough. We don't need this right now. Find another funding source for this for 300 high school students."

- Chewsville

"This hospital is getting me down. All I hear is 'How will we get to the hospital?' What about the people in Hancock, Clear Spring, Smithsburg, Boonsboro, Williamsport? We've been doing it for 75 years. If you are sick enough or hurt enough, someone will get you to the hospital."

"About 11 or 12 years ago, my old iron kettle of great sentimental value was stolen, and I will know it if I ever see it, and tell them where it came from. Also, I wonder if a day goes by that they don't remember where it came from, and maybe have a little guilty feeling. Also, a drawbar disappeared, two hammers, like new, posthole diggers, and goodness knows what else, and three wood wedges also disappeared. These people that stole these may have used them and enjoyed them, but someday they will pay a high price for stealing when they stand before the Lord."
