City man faces drug charges

A Hagerstown man was charged with drug crimes Sunday night during a gang enforcement initiative by the Hagerstown Police Department, officers said.

Police officers saw two men in the 400 block of Mechanic Street involved in a possible drug deal, according to a news release.

When officers approached the men, one of them ran away and officers chased him, police alleged.

The man, Howard Nathaniel Cummings Jr., 19, of 26 Randolph Ave., was taken into custody in the 300 block of North Burhans Boulevard, police said.

Officers found a razor blade knife and baggy of suspected marijuana when they searched Cummings, police alleged. Inside a hat that had fallen from Cummings head during the chase was a plastic baggy containing seven pieces of suspected crack cocaine, police said.

Cummings was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing and hindering.
