Four-vehicle accident sends two to hospital

April 22, 2007

Two people were taken to Washington County Hospital after a four-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon on Virginia Avenue at Linwood Road, officials said.

Assistant Chief Nick Dittilio of the Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway said one person was taken to the hospital as a priority-one patient - the most urgent status - and one person was taken to the hospital as a priority-three, a designation for patients with nonurgent needs.

A Washington County dispatcher said the accident was reported at 2:53 p.m., and emergency crews from Halfway and Williamsport left the scene at 3:59 p.m.

Sheriff's Department Lt. Tim Baker said the driver who caused the accident apparently suffered some type of medical emergency, and that driver was considered a priority-one patient because of the medical emergency.
