SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Four area athletes won titles at the Shippensburg University High School Invitational on Saturday.

Waynesboro's Terrell Rickard won the high jump (6 feet, 6 inches), James Buchanan's Dion Lehman the long jump (22-4 1/4) and Chambersburg's Tappah Dinnall the shot put (53-5) in Class AAA boys, and Chambersburg's Anyssa Barbour won the 100 (12.43) in Class AAA girls.

Barbour also took second in the 200 (25.32) for the Chambersburg girls, who got a second-place finish from Sarah Morrison in the 1,600 (5:01.68) and a third-place finish from Cat Jones in the javelin (114-6).

Rickard also placed third in the 400 (49.86). In other Class AAA boys action, Chambersburg's Corey Grove took third in the 800 (1:56.79) while teammate Dan Bosenbark was third in the long jump (21-6) and Waynesboro's Devin Sims was third in the triple jump (44-10 1/2).


James Buchanan's Lindsey Hollenshead placed third in the Class AA girls 3,200 (11:52.45), while McConnellsburg's Chris Snyder was third in both the Class AA boys 800 (1:59.14) and 1,600 (4:25.17).

Also, Shippensburg's Neely Spence won the Class AAA girls 800 (2:16.73) and 1,600 (4:56.52).

MAPL quad-meet

HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. - Jordan Exeter won the 100 (10.8) and 200 (23.6) for the Mercersburg Academy boys, who swept a Mid-Atlantic Prep League quad meet. The meet was scored as six separate dual meets, and the Blue Storm beat Blair 109-25, Peddie 82-56 and Hill 72-68.

Other Mercersburg winners included James Finucane in the 1,600 (4:29.6), Tyler Chambers in the 3,200 (11:06.9), David Strider in the high jump (5-8) and Brad Williams in the javelin (158-2).

The Mercersburg girls went 2-1, beating Blair 112-21 and Hill 92-44 and losing 103 2/3-36 1/3 to Peddie.

Whitney Matthew won the 100 (12.6) and 400 (1:00.8) and Lena Finucane won the 800 (2:24.2) for the Blue Storm.


No. 1 Jefferson 7-15, Elkins 2-5

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Drew Stevens had two hits and scored three runs as Jefferson beat Elkins in the first game of a doubleheader sweep.

In the second game, Kyle Koppenhaver had two hits and four RBI for Jefferson (17-2). Chris Kelly and Brandon Campbell had three hits each for the Cougars.

No. 4 Chambersburg 20, West Scranton 6

SCRANTON, Pa. - Brian Massimilla hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning as the Trojans defeated West Scranton.

Zach Helm hit a two-run home run for Chambersburg (6-3).

No. 7 Mercersberg 8-11, Peddie 0-7

MERCERSBERG - Cord Heine homered twice and had five RBI in the first game of the Blue Storm's doubleheader sweep of Peddie School in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League.

In the second game, Chris Freeland hit a three-run home run and Clint Brown added a two-run homer for Mercersberg (8-4).

Musselman 10, Frankfort 7

FRANKFORT, W.Va. - Ethan French had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs for the Applemen as they beat Frankfort.

Jesse Miner had three hits, while Mark Darlington, Ricky Frame and Alex Loizos had two hits each for Musselman (8-13).

Hedgesville 10-7, Keyser 5-1

KEYSER, W.Va. - Maurice Adams had four hits on the day to lead Hedgesville to a doubleheader sweep of Keyser.

Jesse Simmons went 3-for-5 to lead the Eagles' 16-hit attack in the first game. Adams, Cliff Scanlon, Matt Stewart, Mike Ferrari and Andrew Shaffer each had two hits.

In the second game, Adams had a pair of doubles and the Eagles (9-10) took advantage of six Keyser errors to complete the sweep.


No. 1 Hedgesville 5, Buffalo Putnam 2

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. - Jess Shirley struck out 11 and Sam Nazlerod had three hits as Hedgesville beat Buffalo Putnam in the Moorefield Tournament.

Brittany Kolb and Chelsea Oals had two hits each for the Eagles.

Hedgesville 10, No. 6 Martinsburg 5

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. - Hedgesville scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to snap a tie and beat Martinsburg.

Jess Shirley had two hits, including a home run, and Jess Mason had three hits for the Eagles (17-1). Sarah Forney and Heather Payne added two hits each.

Jess Russ and Tiffany Farmer had two hits each for the Bulldogs.

Berkeley Springs 2, Nitro 1

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Katie Kesecker struck out seven and hit the game-winning single in the fifth inning of Berkely Springs' win at the Sluggerfest Tournament.

Peddie 7-6, Mercersberg 1-0

MERCERSBERG, Pa. - Lauren Dobish hit a triple for Mercersberg Academy, but the Blue Storm (5-6) were swept by Peddie School in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League doubleheader.
