A man tried to eat crack cocaine as detectives were going to arrest him on a drug charge, according to a Hagerstown Police Department press release.
Police said they conducted a sting on Saturday to target drug dealing in the downtown area.
Police said they had a confidential informant contact a man at East Franklin and North Prospect street. The man got into the informant's car and they drove to the 100 block of North Walnut Street, where the man sold $30 worth of crack cocaine to the informant, according to the release.
When detectives moved in, the man "attempted to eat his remaining crack cocaine," according to the press release.
Detectives found two bags of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on the man when they searched him, according to the release.
The man - Joseph Eric Young, 49, of 42 Alexander St. in Hagerstown - was charged with distribution of crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the release.
